MASHGIACH AND CATERERS 3/24/04

The new Kitchen and Kiddush Room require that we meet the highest standard for maintaining kashrut. This requires the support of caterers as well as members. The following is the standard:

  1. The Rabbi will appoint at least one Mashgiach and Mashgiach Assistants to supervise the Kitchen and Kiddush Room.
  2. No one is permitted into the kitchen without a Mashgiach who personally unlocks the door.
  3. No food or liquor can be brought into the Kitchen or Kiddush Room until cleared by a Mashgiach.
  4. The Shul Mashgiach is required to cover all catered events.
  5. The Shul Mashgiach will be paid an hourly fee by the caterer. The Mashgiach is not a Shul employee. Caterers who fail to pay this fee may be restricted from further access to Congregation Ohr Torah.
  6. Caterers are required to post a $500 bond that is returned after the premises are found to be clean and in good condition. Part or the entire the bond may be forfeit if there is damage or if someone must be hired to clean. If the $500 does not cover the damage, the caterer will be billed for the difference.
  7. The Mashgiach will organize the weekly Kiddush without a fee and only with appointed Assistants.
  8. Only those directly involved with the Kiddush are allowed in the Kitchen.
  9. Absolutely no one should make Kiddush before the Rabbi makes it for the entire Olam (including the set-up committee). The Building Use Committee will produce a standard contract for Members and caterers. A published fee schedule for using the facility is available.
